A Christmas twist on our popular Introduction to Blacksmithing course. After that all important chat about safety you'll get straight to work, learning to hammer metal to a point and spread it. You'll make and finish a range of Christmas items. This course is suitable for beginners, no prior blacksmithing experience is needed. For those who already have experience with blacksmithing we run an intermediate course. David Gregory is an experienced master blacksmith whose work includes original commissions and a wide range of restoration projects. David also occasionally takes commissions for film and television productions. This course is limited to six participants to allow everyone plenty of time with the course tutor. Christmas Blacksmithing takes place on 14 November. There will be a break for lunch and a mess room to eat lunch in, alternatively there is an on-site café. Tea and coffee provided.

Second World War Walk

Coleshill House was the top-secret headquarters of the Auxiliary Units, a secret army that was designed to wreak havoc behind enemy lines had Britain been invaded during the Second World War. Discover the detailed history of their training and visit some of the remaining Second World War features around the village, including the Guard House, the site of Coleshill House and our replica underground bunker. Guided Second World War Walks take place from March to November. Meet in the car park, in front of the Granary. £9 per adult, £4.50 per child.

Landscape Oil Painting for Beginners

Taking inspiration from the local landscape, you'll be guided through the process of using oil paints and a palette knife to capture a view. You'll take your finished painting home with you. This workshop is designed for beginners, no experience required. Your tutor is Rupert Aker, a landscape painter based in the Cotswolds. Using oil paints and palette knife to create impressionist paintings, he works directly from nature where possible, and has been inspired by local places such as White Horse Hill. Our class sizes are small, so you'll have a chance to engage with the tutor while you work. This Landscape Oil Painting for Beginners workshop takes place on Friday 12 June and Saturday 4 July, 10am-3.30pm. There will be a break for lunch and a mess room to eat lunch in, alternatively there is an on-site café. Tea and coffee provided.

Guided Tours: Secrets of Coleshill

There’s much more to Coleshill than meets the eye. Join a guided tour to find out more about Coleshill House, lost to fire in the 1950s, and discover the secret and sabotage-filled wartime training that took over much of the estate during the Second World War. You'll also see behind the scenes of the former Model Farm, now home to the National Trust Heritage and Rural Skills Centre. From fake castles and cunningly-camouflaged huts to a hi-tech Victorian farm, this tour reveals elements of Coleshill that you might walk past without noticing. This tour involves a walk of approximately 1km around Coleshill, including a steep hill. Guided tours of the Coleshill Home Farm and Skills Centre take place monthly from March to October. Tours last approximately 60 minutes, with a chance to look round our exhibition afterwards. Please collect your ticket from the Visitor Welcome point in the main carpark, at least 10 minutes before your tour starts. Free for National Trust members and under 5s, otherwise tickets cost £6 per adult and £3 per child (under 18).
