Join us for a rare visit to Picker House: an exceptional example of late modernist domestic architecture and a remarkable expression of the cosmopolitan life of its original owner, Stanley Picker. Designed by architect Kenneth Wood and completed in 1968, the house remains an extraordinary time capsule of late‑1960s luxury — a private residence conceived to showcase Picker’s outstanding collection of modern and contemporary art. Number One, Picker is the private home of Stanley Picker, a cosmetics magnate who made his fortune in the sixties and commissioned architect Kenneth Wood to design and build a beautiful modern home in Surrey, with the interiors and furnishings contract fulfilled by the Conran Group. Originally commissioned in 1965 and completed in 1968, the house has been held in trust since Stanley’s death in 1982, with all the original furniture and interior decor still in place - the house is a wonderful time capsule to the very best in design and architecture that the mid sixties had to offer. This 2-hour tour will be led by one of the Stanley Picker Trust’s longstanding and knowledgeable guides. They will lead us through the house and share insights into Stanley Picker’s history, the design and construction of the building, the commissioned furniture, and the art collection housed on site.

TICKETS via the NGS website: https://findagarden.ngs.org.uk/garden/7598/turn-end Tickets £6.50 (Children under 16 years free) For over forty years Turn End has welcomed visitors for this charity open afternoon, which raises funds for nursing and caring charities. Explore Turn End's series of garden 'rooms' including the dry garden, the spring garden on the site of a Victorian orchard and sunken courtyard gardens (house closed). All ticket proceeds to National Garden Scheme. The garden only is open at our NGS open day. The house is closed. PARKING: We are located in the historic centre of Haddenham, on a narrow residential road. There is free, but extremely limited on-street parking on Townside and surrounding roads. If you are able, please park elsewhere in the village and enjoy walking through Haddenham to visit us. Please park on wider roads and keep clear of driveways - thank you! An Afternoon Open Garden at Turn End. Late June sees the garden in full bloom, with cascades of scented climbing roses, the flamboyant flowers of bearded irises and a rich tapestry of colour in the borders. Explore the enchanting series of garden spaces including the dry garden with its grasses and pots of succulents, the cool shady spring garden under old apples trees, grassy glades under mature trees, and a secluded courtyard with a pool and fountain. Enjoy a leisurely stroll to explore each garden room or find a quiet place to take a moment, relax and unwind. Turn End’s Grade II‑listed garden, designed by Peter as an integral extension of the house, is a rare post‑war example where architecture and landscape were created by the same hand. Join the Trustees of Turn End Trust and staff from Waddesdon Manor for a private tour of Flint House and the Windmill Hill Archive building, both set in the heart of the Waddesdon Estate. Join a Waddesdon Guide for a tour of Flint House, the winner of the 2015 RIBA House of the Year Award, and Catherine Taylor, Head Archivist for a tour of Windmill Hill and look at a selection of Archive material. The Flint House was commissioned by the Late Lord Rothschild and was designed by Charlotte Skene Catling of Skene Catling de la Peña. Windmill Hill continues the grand tradition of Rothschild architectural patronage in the Vale of Aylesbury. With spectacular views, an old dairy farm has inspired a place to enjoy art and architecture. Designed by Stephen Marshall Architects of London, the building celebrates the conservation and environmental work of the Rothschild Foundation. Turn End is delighted to celebrating the 9th Chiltern Heritage and Culture Festival with an Open Garden afternoon. The Chiltern Society brings people together to stand up for Chilterns nature and heritage, and celebrate, campaign for and conserve the unique landscape of the Chilterns. Late summer brings fiery colour to the garden including gladioli and tender plants such as dahlias and cannas. With limited ticket numbers, explore the series of garden rooms and find a cool place to relax. The visit begins with an introduction from Gardener, Sarah Hussey and is then self-led with the opportunity to ask questions and discover Turn End’s glorious listed included. Tickets via the Chiltern Heritage and Culture Festival website.
