About this event
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Hamish attended Queens Park School in Glasgow and left to form as lead guitarist his first professional band, the Dream Police in 1964. Probably best known for his work as the original lead singer/guitarist with The Average White Band, Hamish Stuart has had an illustrious career as both songwriter and performer. He has worked with the likes of Diana Ross, George Benson and Chaka Khan (for whom he wrote the No. 1 chart hit 'Whatcha Gonna Do For Me') culminating in six years with the Paul McCartney Band. Although still guesting in other people's bands, since '94 he has also led his own group, which is a supergroup in every sense of the word. He continues to be highly active on the scene, working not only with his own band but making guest appearances with the likes of Ringo Starr and Bill Wyman. In July 2015, Stuart reunited with his AWB bandmates Malcolm "Molly" Duncan and Steve Ferrone to form The 360 Band. This is in essence one third of the original Average White Band. They released an album titled Three Sixty in 2017 and have been performing live together along with supporting musicians. Since 2019, he has toured as a featured member of Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band. In recognition of his unique contribution to music, Stuart was awarded with a BASCA Gold Badge award in 2016.
