About this event

WHITWELL & DISTRICT WI We meet every second Monday in the month at Whitwell Community each meeting there is either a talk on an interesting topic or an organised activity, followed by a cup of tea/coffee and social time. We also organise theatre trips and other outings. New members are always warmly welcomed and can come along for up to three meetings as a visitor before deciding whether or not to join the WI. CONTACTS Email: Telephone: or ABOUT THE WI The Women’s Institute plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities. It was formed in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War. Since then the organisation’s aims have broadened and the WI is now the largest voluntary women’s organisation in the UK. In 2015 the WI celebrated its centenary and currently has approximately 220,000 members in around 6,300 WIs. MEMBERSHIP FEE The annual membership fee runs from April to March and this year (2025/26) it is £45, however new members joining between July and March pay a reduced pro rata amount.
