Hey Glasgow Nightlighters! After a completely sold-out April event, we’re back and ready to party at Cottiers on 4th June. Whether you didn’t get the chance to join us at our busiest-ever spring market or you had so much fun you’re back again, you’ve got an evening of great eats, beats, and handmade treats ahead of you! With summer weather rolling in and thanks to a newly paved area in front of the nearby church, we’re bringing even more street food your way beyond the courtyard. Keep an eye out for an announcement coming your way about all the amazing food options we’ll have waiting for you! Following two years of performances in Edinburgh, including a sell-out performance at the beginning of this year, Ivy Big Band is delighted to be playing in Glasgow for the first time ever! Incorporating a range of musical styles, from classic jazz to modern hits, Ivy performances are praised for their joyful energy and inclusive atmosphere – and are the perfect excuse for a boogie! Gather your friends and get your tickets now for our Glasgow debut! Ivy Big Band is an Edinburgh-based big band for women and gender minorities, formed with the goal of amplifying gender diversity in jazz by creating a safe and inclusive space for women and gender minorities to play together. Founded in 2024 with just 10 members and now composed of 30 musicians, including saxophonists, trumpeters, trombonists, rhythm players and vocalists, the band blends jazz, pop, funk, soul and beyond. A Celebration of Glasgow: History Heritage Traditional Skills

Come along to Cottiers for a day filled with history, heritage and traditional skills. Outside, you will have the opportunity to get some hands-on experience with slating with the Scottish Traditional Skills Forum and demonstrations in sign writing and stone carving by Glasgow City College. The theatre will be filled with a range of stalls hosted by heritage and history organisations for visitors to seek advice, to delve into Glasgow’s history and learn about how to become involved in Scotland’s heritage. Come along any time throughout the day. No need to book We will also be hosting a tour of the building during the day at 1.30pm. For the tour please meet at the Cottiers bar

Talk: Daniel Cottier & William Lepier

Join Max Donnelly and Fergus Sutherland to learn more about two important people connected to Cottiers. Max will discuss Daniel Cottier and his artistic output. Max is Curator of Nineteenth-Century Furniture at the V&A. He has contributed to two V&A publications: C.F.A. Voysey: Arts and Crafts Designer (2016) and The Story of Scottish Design (2018). Max writes for journals including The Burlington Magazine and has lectured in the UK, Europe, North America and China. Fergus will talk about the architect of the building William Leiper. Fergus is a well known face on the Scottish heritage scene. He has presented the People’s History Show and works as a Heritage Consultant. The talk will be held inside Cottiers Theatre. Daniel Cottier ran a successful business which decorated and furnished interiors, made stained glass and furniture, and painted ceramics, operating from branches in London, New York, Sydney and Melbourne. This talk will discuss some of the designers, artists, artisans and suppliers who worked with or for Cottier, the latter including James Powell & Sons (glass), Minton & Co. (ceramics) and John Broadwood & Sons (pianos). It will show how artists such as Henry Stacy Marks and John Moyr contributed to Cottier’s development of a ‘house style’ and how the designers Andrew Wells and Frederick Vincent Hart extended its influence in Australia and the USA, where Cottier & Co. continued to flourish long afterits founder’s death.
