TALK: The talk is about the ancient but forgotten road from Oxford to Bristol running across the north of Wiltshire, that he discovered on a map from 1675. The route has its origins back in the Iron Age and was used by everyone in the millennia that followed: kings, armies, monks, travellers, and pilgrims. But in the 18th century, it suddenly fell into disuse due to some dodgy dealings and only now is its history and importance being recognised. David will be covering: the geography that governed the route of the road, how it was used by the Romans, the role it played in the development of Malmesbury as a centre of religion for nearly a thousand years, the importance of Purton as a stopping off point along the route and why the church has both a spire and a tower. SPEAKER: David Mitchell is an accidental historian who has always been interested in old maps. It was this passion that led to him uncovering the mystery of the North Wessex Way and started his gradual descent into the obsession of history!

TICKETS https://www.sound-knowledge.co.uk/collections/events/products/damian-lewis-at-st-peters?variant=45731075915962 oin Damian Lewis to celebrate the release of his new album Sweet Chaos with an exclusive ’s Church from 6pm on Sunday 7th June. Following the success of his acclaimed 2023 debut Mission Creep, which established him as a powerful and authentic new voice in British music, Damian returns with his second album Sweet Chaos, written from a place of hard-won clarity. Written two years on, it is bolder, broader, and at times more raw. “The first album was quiet and tender,” Lewis says. “This new album is a bit angrier in places. You don’t know these things until you listen back: the extent to which your state of mind pervades the thing.” For this intimate appearance, Damian will perform a short, stripped-back set, showcasing the songs in their rawest form. The performance will be followed by a Q&A and signing event, offering fans a rare chance to meet Damian and ask him about the stories behind the music. “Sweet Chaos is a story of a man whose life is gilded, charmed, blessed. A man in control upon whom chaos is visited, but the chaos releases all manner of wonderful things. A freedom.” If you’d like to attend this intimate performance in a beautiful setting, album and ticket bundles are available for purchase, featuring a copy of the new album (released 5th June on CD, LP and an indies exclusive orange vinyl) and a ticket to the event.
