Emergency Outdoor First Aid Course Blended Learning option (12 Hour equivalent) Other practical assessment days are available! Click here for more options This course is designed for those spending time in the outdoors: skiers, snowboarders, hikers, mountaineers, climbers, swimmers… Whether you’re an activity leader, snowsports instructor or outdoor enthusiast, it’s important to know what to do in case something goes wrong when you’re in the wilderness! Our Emergency Outdoor First Aid course gives you the skills needed for situations where you may be some distance away from immediate help. Part of this qualification covers the entire content of the Emergency First Aid at Work course, as outlined in the HSE (First aid) Regulations 1981 and the HSE (First-Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982. This blended learning course, combining online learning with an in-person assessment, is accepted and recognised by many outdoor governing bodies. If applicable, please check your requirements with the relevant governing body to ensure this course fulfils your needs.

Colourful Planting Design - Understanding a Gardener's Palette

Welcome to our talented designer Rachel Owens 2026 garden workshop series. These workshops will teach you everything you need to know about creating the garden you have always dreamed of. This course explores the way colour is used in the garden and how we can create our own unique planting pallets by understanding the relationships between different combinations. The morning will start with creating a personal colour wheel from paint samples and playing with the relationship between certain colour combinations. We will work through colour selections to include analogous, harmonious, complementary, split-complementary, triadic schemes. After lunch we will look at the way these relationships can work outdoors and how these combinations can be used to select plants for a scheme. We will look at examples by working garden designers and see how their ideas have adopted these schemes. Once we have analysed the chosen examples, we can start to think about what colour combinations we would like to transfer to our own gardens. Subjects Covered: Painting pallet work using different colour combinations Exploration of established colour combinations Exploration around colours and how this could relate to plants Examples of existing planting schemes Ways to use colour theory to start planning our own spaces The Venue: Our very own studio space is set within the grounds of Old Barn Garden Centre, Dial Post, South of Horsham.

Keri has travelled extensively and brings this experience to her garden planting and inspiration. The Venue: Old Barn Nurseries is one of the largest nurseries in Sussex. The talk will be held in their purpose-built studio ‘The Garden Room’.

Lino Printing - Christmas Creations Inspired by Nature

Join us for a creative day exploring the art of linocut and lino printing, and to learn how to design and carve your own winter inspired linocuts. Whether you’re completely new to the techniques, or have some experience, come and join us for a relaxing day in which you will create your own print designs to use in your Christmas craft projects. Plan of the Day: You’ll be welcomed with refreshments before course tutor Wendy Darby, begins with an introduction to linocut, demonstrating how to use the carving tools and basic cutting techniques. Once you have used materials provided, or those you might like to bring with you, to use as inspiration for your winter themed designs, you will make your own small practice block to learn the techniques. You will be shown how to ink your lino block and burnish prints by hand. After a break for lunch which you can either bring with you or buy from the Old Barn Café onsite, you will return to your creations. Once confident with the techniques, you will design your own A6 Block, taking inspiration from resource materials or your own images, before printing your block on to a range of stationery items – cards, gift tags and more, all ready for you to use this Christmas. By the end of the workshop you will have several completed images to take home.
