Battle of Chippenham Re-Enactment

About Join the English Civil War Society in an historically accurate re-creation of what happened in and around Chippenham during the summer of 1643. Watch four hundred soldiers with cannon and horses as The King's Army and The Roundhead Association battle to decide whether the town will be Royalist or throw in its lot with Parliament. Enjoy a glimpse of 17th Century life when visiting the encampment of Townsfolk and watch displays by Musketeers, Pikemen, Cavalry, and artillery throughout the day. Crofton Beam Engines in Steam

About Crofton Beam Engines pumping station will be open and steaming the 25th and 26th of July. Site opening times on both days, 10:00 – 16:30. Visitors can come and see our magnificent beam engines at work pumping water 40 feet up to feed the Kennet and Avon Canal at its's highest point, just as they have done for over 200 years. For adults and Children: Our engines are housed in a magnificent Grade I listed Georgian Building, spread over four floors. Our two beam engines fill the building and are almost silent when working. Talk to our knowledgeable volunteers about what you are seeing and how the engines work. Children and adults alike enjoy watching the engine drivers at work, controlling several tons of beam on the floor above them. Next to our engine house is our boiler house, where steam is raised to drive the engines. The skill of stoking a boiler to make the fire as efficient as possible is clearly demonstrated by our team of boiler people. Duck Race Our famous duck race takes place every day at 12:35. Watch the ducks pour out of the our pumps and race away down the leat. Choose your duck, enter it into the race, entry per duck £1 to win a prize your duck must come first or last . For children: This weekend's activities for children include the Crofton Trail, a beautifully designed trail by local artist Dru Marland. The trail will take you round the site, once completed there is a small prize and sticker for each completed trail leaflet.

About A new series of silent-era classics arrives at The Pound Arts Centre, all accompanied by live piano score performed by BFI Southbank's resident pianist Meg Morley. Since performing for her first silent film in 2016, Meg has quickly become one of the UK's pre-eminent silent film accompanists, performing at various international film festivals and playing reguarly at the London Cinema Museum. In the 1870s, gold is discovered in the Dakota Territory, and wanted men Bull Stanley (Tom Santschi) and Mike Costigan (J. Farrell MacDonald) join thousands of other pioneers on a westward journey in search of wealth. Soon, Bull and Mike see a gang of thugs attacking Lee (Olive Borden), a young woman. They rescue her, but her father is killed during the assault, so Mike and Bull become her guardians. Before long, Bull and Mike leave their criminal pasts behind and devote themselves to Lee.

As part of our rhythm of prayer, every Saturday from 8.30am - 9am, we are praying for the persecuted church. The writer to the Hebrews tells us to remember those in prison as if we were their fellow prisoners and those who are ill treated as if we were suffering ourselves and Paul tells the Thessalonians to be joyful always and pray continually SO we will pray joyfully for those in the family of God who are suffering and struggling the most around the world.
