Tickets are £7 for Friends and Event Details We are excited to be bringing you an extra event taking place at Broughton House on Friday 4th September at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. Tickets are £7 for Friends and £8 for other NTS and visitors. Tickets are available by emailing This talk “Conversations with Hornel” the inspiration behind the paintings will be given by Kate prior to her opening at the Whitehouse Gallery which begins on Saturday 5th September at 11am Biography Kate initially trained as a Sculptor and Theatre Designer but by 1999 she made the decision to be a full-time painter. Originally from the Lake District she is now based on the Solway coast in south west Scotland and is also a member of the Society of Women Artists. Kate’s location and landscape hugely influences her subject matter and historically is a ‘painter of life’, using her en plein-air sessions and life drawing to feed her narrative paintings. These narrative works are developed from her love of the human form, pattern, chiaroscuro, and of course theatricality! They are initiated in the studio from mark making, working over studies and old work and a huge amount of experimentation. Themes emerge and the narrative becomes apparent, often stemmed from life experiences, past and present.

I have exhibited a number of times in the last six years and enjoyed Artists residencies in the Highlands and on Skye. I draw and paint everyday.’ Scott McFarlane | Spring Fling Open Studios Facebook: Scott McFarlane Art 6th May – Demonstration with Fiona Stansfield ‘It was in 2006 whilst working as a research scientist in the African bush that Fiona turned her hand to art, starting with pastel pencils and charcoal (these basic artist’s tools being easy to carry about and obtain in Zimbabwe). Her unique, expressive and highly detailed drawings, based on her own photography, soon became popular and supported her PhD studies into elephant reproduction and conservation. All the tips and techniques necessary to produce your own Ciabatta, Farmhouse Loaves, Irish Soda Bread and Indian Flatbreads. And yes, you’ll be baking your own loaves to take home! N.B. Recipes may change due to availability of ingredients. All tuition, factsheets, recipes, ingredients, aprons and utensils are provided and you don’t even have to do the washing up! If you can bring takeaway boxes with you to try to reduce waste that’s great. If not boxes are provided! If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask!
